Patch Testing and Safe Topical Application
Patch Testing and Safe Topical Application
Before you begin
Read the complete finished-product label. Confirm that you understand the intended application areas, amount, frequency, warnings, storage instructions, and ingredient list. Do not use a product if you know you are allergic to one of its ingredients.
Choose a small area of clean, dry, intact skin that is easy to observe. Do not test on the face, near the eyes, on a mucous membrane, or over skin that is cut, scraped, sunburned, recently shaved, or already irritated.
A simple patch-test process
- Apply a small amount of the finished product to the selected area, following the label.
- Do not cover the area unless the label or a qualified clinician specifically directs you to do so.
- Avoid introducing another new topical product to the same area during the observation period.
- Watch for redness, itching, burning, swelling, blistering, or another unwanted response.
- If irritation occurs, stop use, gently remove the product if appropriate, and seek medical advice when needed.
The appropriate observation time can depend on the formula and individual circumstances. When the label does not specify a process and you have a history of sensitivity or allergy, ask a qualified healthcare professional before use.
Basic application precautions
- Use Nature’s Potions products externally and only as labeled.
- Use clean hands and start with a small amount.
- Avoid the eyelids, eye area, inside the nose, mouth, mucous membranes, and broken or irritated skin.
- Do not ingest a topical product.
- Wash hands after applying a balm or cream unless the hands are the intended application area.
- Keep products out of reach of children and pets.
- Do not share roller bottles when doing so could transfer skin or cosmetic residue.
- Replace lids and caps promptly.
When to seek advice first
Consult a qualified healthcare professional before use if you are pregnant, nursing, under medical supervision, considering use for a child, or unsure whether an ingredient is appropriate for you. Seek prompt medical attention for a severe or rapidly worsening reaction, difficulty breathing, facial swelling, or another urgent symptom.
Follow the finished label
Online articles and videos are helpful companions, but the finished label controls. Product formulas and directions can change. If an older video, social post, or printed handout conflicts with the product in your hand, follow the current label and contact info@natures-potions.com with questions.
